HEADMASTER'S MESSAGE
KYUEM, owned by Yayasan UEM and part of the UEM Group, is a fully-residential college that is modeled upon the top British boarding schools. It has a very active student life on campus and a caring pastoral care system, run by an internationally diverse staff of widely-experienced Malaysian, British and Indian teachers. Occupying a purpose-built site at Lembah Beringin, just 70km north of Kuala Lumpur, and enjoying easy access to the North-South Highway, the College offers tranquil surroundings in which able and highly-motivated students can study without distractions.

The College occupies a 50-acre site, and its extensive, modern and well-designed facilities and premises do full justice to the spacious grounds. Teaching and learning take place in well-appointed, air-conditioned classrooms and lecture theatres that are well-equipped with audio-visual teaching aids, and in a range of specialist subject rooms which benefit from state-of-the art equipment.

Since its foundation in 1998, KYUEM has strengthened its reputation as an educational establishment which produces highly impressive A-Level results and obtains places a top universities for its students in the United Kingdom and other countries.

In the 2006 Cambridge International Examinations (CIE) A-Level, two of its scholars came top in the world in Sociology and Mathematics (November Session). Three students were top in Malaysia in Physics, History and Critical Thinking. 46% of the students who sat for the exam obtained 3`A`s or more. Eight students were admitted into Oxford and Cambridge in 2005. Over 95% successfully achieved placement in medical schools overseas and in other prestigious universities such as LSE, Imperial College, Warwick University, UCL and top Irish and Australia Universities.

KYUEM has an excellent site, first-class resources and facilities, experienced and highly-qualified specialist teachers, splendid support, superb results: every member of KYUEM is rightly proud of all these; but there is much more to the college.

At KYUEM, our aim is to educate, not simply to teach. Students who join our community are encouraged and supported so that they fulfill not only their academic potential but also their potential as individuals in a caring and responsible community. Our staff and teaching-resources ensure the former: our commitment, our pastoral system, our extra-curricular programme, our excellent facilities for sports, games, leisure, cultural and artistic pursuits ensure the latter.

Students who succeed at KYUEM will, of course, leave with excellent academic qualifications and with their feet firmly placed on the first stage of academic and professional success. These are fine achievements; but it is our intention that KYUEM students leave us with much more.

They will be individuals who have pursued their interests, developed their talents, and widened their horizons. They will know many answers; but they will have learnt the importance of questions. They will understand duty and responsibility. They will know what tolerance, friendship and teamwork are, what they cost, and the rewards they bring.

As Headmaster, I am justifiably proud of my teaching staff, of my executive staff who support the College, of my administrative staff, of our wonderful resources and, of course, of our students: past and present. I know I shall be as proud of our students of the future.

May I invite you now to explore the College of which everyone at KYUEM is so proud?

Richard Small ,
Interim Headmaster
