CAIE EXAM FAQ
Update as of 24 April 2020 12.30 pm
Please refer to question no. 3 for the latest update from the CAIE as of 21 April 2020
As the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) outbreak continues to spread, we would like to reassure all our stakeholders that we are closely monitoring the situation. We understand the impact this is having on everyone, and our thoughts are with everyone affected.
Our priority is the safety and wellbeing of all and we are committed to supporting you through this rapidly changing situation.
⎯ KYUEM is unable to offer the Trial Examination initially scheduled in May 2020, due to the prolonged MCO and the probability of its continuation for colleges such as ourselves. An email has been sent to students, parents and sponsors with regards to an assessment framework that has been prepared. Kindly check your email for further details
⎯ We await further instruction from Majlis Keselamatan Negara (MKN), Ministry of Health (MOH) and Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) with regards to re-opening of schools and educational institutions after 12 May 2020
⎯ Students, Parents and Sponsors will be updated accordingly
⎯ The CAIE have provided access to Resource Plus to everyone free of charge during this outbreak. Resource Plus includes high-quality videos, ready-made lesson plans and teaching materials for a limited number of English, Maths and Science syllabuses at Cambridge Advanced stages. You can access these materials directly from this page (https://www.cambridgeinternational.org/resourceplus). CAIE hopes providing access to these materials will assist you, helping your students continue to learn and study for their exams (from CAIE website)
⎯ At the same time, we will facilitate each subject teacher to deliver revision materials through various mode remotely. Please ensure that direct contact can be established (emails, WhatsApp, etc.) between the stakeholders (teacher-student). This is to ensure that no one will be disadvantaged due to lack of technology facilities
CAIE’s Update as of 21 April 2020 (CAIE Latest Update)
⎯ Please be informed that the CAIE Latest Update does not change KYUEM decision to award AS grades for all Batch 22 students for the May/June 2020 series. It allows students who enter for AS Level and receive a grade from the June 2020 series to choose either:
• Take only the second stage (A2) of the A Level in that subject in the November 2020 or June 2021 series, and receive an A Level grade based solely on their performance in A2*. In other words, CAIE will consider that a candidate with an AS Level grade from June 2020 has met the requirement to complete the AS Level stage before obtaining an A Level grade. Candidates who withdraw from the June 2020 series will not have this option, or
• Take all components of the A Level in a future series, and retain the AS Level from June 2020 as a standalone qualification, without carrying the result forward
⎯ We trust awarding grades for the May/June 2020 series will allow KYUEM as a school to focus on the A2 syllabus next semester onwards in preparation for the May/June 2021 A2 exams as we had already explained in our last letter to students and parents. CAIE’s update on 21 April supports our decision very well
